Job Vacancy Rate at 1.3% in Q1
Workers who have a tough time finding jobs in the mining sector would do better to retrain as beauticians, fresh figures from Statistics Estonia suggest.
The numbers show that there were nearly 7,000 job vacancies in Estonia in the first quarter of the year, a vacancy rate of 1.3 percent.
The result marks a 1.1 percent decrease compared with the number of vacancies in the same quarter of 2012, but a 5.7 percent increase compared with the previous quarter.
Mining and quarrying showed the lowest vacancy rates (0.3 percent), while jobs in the statistical category of "other service activities," which includes laundry, dry cleaning and beauty services, showed the highest (3.5 percent).
Two-thirds of job vacancies and slightly over half of occupied posts were in Harju County, which includes Tallinn. The rates of job vacancies were the highest in Pärnu and Harju counties (1.8 percent and 1.6 percent).
