Lääne-Viru County Governor Einar Vallbaum today announced his departure from the Reform Party, despite having survived a party probe that led to the ousting of another leadership member, MEP Kristiina Ojuland.

Vallbaum told Postimees that, though the Reform Party's court of honor did not implicate him in a vote rigging scandal, he has decided to leave for the sake of impartiality in the party's continuing internal investigation.

Earlier this month an organizer of the party's internal election in May accused both Ojuland and Vallbaum of persuading her to rig votes and later trying to bribe her into taking full responsibility.

Vallbaum, a member since 2010, previously threatened to sue the party if he were expelled. He was a Center Party member from 2002 to 2009.
