In a First, Tallinn Tech Receives Most Admission Applications
A total of 10,505 applications for entrance to the Tallinn University of Technology's (TTÜ) curricula were submitted this year, making the school the admissions leader in Estonia for the first time.
Bachelor's, engineering and professional education studies received 7,139 applications, master's programs 2,368 and Ph.D. studies 161. International students filed 837 applications.
School board member Heiki Lemba said the number of applications was up most for technology areas. He said the number of high school graduates with gold and silver medals was several thousand - also a best in Estonia.
Traditionally, the University of Tartu has the country's leading reputation for academic excellence.
At the bachelor's level, the most applications at TTÜ were received for IT, commerce, public administration and business information technology. Other leading majors for undergrads
were gene technology, logistics, food technology and product development, industrial and civilian construction, and mechanical engineering.
Leading fields for master's studies were personnel and development, corporate finance and accounting. The most popular technology areas were business IT, product development and production technology, informatics, logistics and - taught on the basis of an English curriculum - cyber defense.
The deadline for accepting the admission offers is in mid-July.
Founded in 1918, TTÜ has seen 60,000 graduate over its history. Currently 14,500 students study there.
