Fishing Fines Could Increase Tenfold for Businesses
A new Fishing Act drafted by the Ministry of the Environment seeks to increase fines for violations by companies from the current 3,200 euros to a maximum of 32,000.
Statistics show that current fines have little effect on businesses and some make room for the fines in their budgets before the actual violations occur, Postimees reported on Sunday.
Fine levied on individuals will remain at 1,200 euros.
The bill will be presented for approval to the Cabinet and Parliament, after ministries and other interested parties have had their say.
