The Estonian Cabinet has approved an agreement with Russia that defines the framework for cooperation in areas near the countries' common border.

"The main aim is to create more jobs for the people in those counties, to liven up those areas,“ Minister for Regional Affairs, Siim Kiisler, told ETV on Thursday.

The agreement will affect Ida-Viru, Jõgeva, Tartu, Põlva and Võru counties on the Estonian side, and Pskov Oblast as well as western areas of the St. Petersburg Oblast in Russia.

Joint programs are eligible for EU funding.
