The Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference is taking place in Pärnu from August 25 to 27.

Eleven countries and 26 delegations, among others representing the European Parliament and international organizations, are participating, reported uudised.err.ee. This year's event is named “Sustainable Innovation for a Competitive Region.”

As chairwoman of this year's event, Estonian MP Laine Randjärv, is giving an overview of Estonia's activities as the presiding country. The agenda also includes statements by President Toomas Hendrik Ilves and speaker of Parliament Ene Ergma.

Topics of discussion include innovation, competitiveness, health, energy, climate change, marine policy and human trafficking.
