Police Concerned About Car Break-Ins in Passenger Port Area
Cars have been burglarized at a high rate around the Tallinn passenger port, leading police to put the area under special watch.
Juhan Ojasoo, head of the city center department of the property crime division, told Postimees the police was well aware of the problem, and that this year had seen 150 break-ins.
"Unfortunately foreign cars are easy pickings for thieves, as many valuables are left visible, from tablets and laptops to clothes and telephones. Most Western European cars also lack car alarms," Ojasoo was quoted by the paper as saying.
He said the thefts occur on fee-charging areas on private property - often vacant lots whose owners use them for earning extra income, with no guards posted.
