Estonian Basketball Team Qualifies for European Championships
The Estonian national basketball team beat Bulgaria on Sunday night with a score of 61-49, well exceeding the four points it needed to qualify for the 2015 European Championships.
The first leg of the match-up, played in Bulgaria on Thursday, ended in a 58:55 loss for the visitors.
In Sunday's game, the home team took control of the match from the very first minute, winning the first quarter 25-10. The Bulgarians fought back in the second quarter, but made no headway in closing the gap.
The away team pulled two points closer in the third quarter, which ended 50-37, but managed to outpace Estonia by only one point in the last quarter.
Rain Veideman and Gert Dorbek each scored ten points for the home team, while Tanel Sokk added nine in front of the 7,000-strong crowd.
Estonia last played in the European Championships in 2001 and is the second team to qualify for the 2015 championships, after the hosts Ukraine.
