Rail Cargo Volumes Continue to Decline ({{commentsTotal}})


The Januanry-August account for freight transported on Estonian Railways tracks was down 9.6 percent in the annual comparison, coming in at 16.6 millions tons of cargo.

In August, the monthly volume totaled 1.69 million tons, a decrease of 4.4 percent compared with the same month of 2012, reported uudised.err.ee.

Shipments of petroleum and related products, up by 2.5 percent in 2013, account for the majority of rail cargo in Estonia, and have reached 10.8 million tons so far this year.

Fertilizer shipments have declined by 10 percent and oil shale by 19 percent.

In 2012, the volume of goods declined by 14.4 percent compared with the year before.
