Ombudsman Reports to Parliament in Yearly Address
Chancellor of Justice Indrek Teder delivered his annual report to Parliament today, emphasizing that politicians should not forget the Constitution, and that it should be respected regardless of their feelings towards it.
Teder said that some unconstitutional draft laws have been presented knowingly. But the Constitution should not be expanded as seen fit by politicians, he said.
Last year, the Office of the Justice Chancellor focused on children's rights, including issues such as foster homes, corporal punishment and poverty. The office has proposed banning all forms of physical punishment on children.
A total of 2,040 complaints were submitted to the office in a year, 4 percent fewer than in the previous 12 months.
