President Toomas Hendrik Ilves today flew to the US, where he will take part in the opening week of the 68th UN General Assembly and speak at several international conferences and universities.

Ilves will be the first speaker at the General Debate on September 25. He will also hold an opening speech at an Estonian-organized UN discussion on secure and free Internet, the Office of the President said today.

Ilves plans to meet with Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and to take part in a meeting on Ukraine that will be attended by Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.

He will also speak at Concordia Summit 2013 and give lectures at Columbia University, MIT, and Tufts University on topics ranging from cyber security, Internet freedom, IT developments, the financial crisis, and pan-Atlantic cooperation.

The Estonian president will take part in the General Assembly's opening ceremony and reception of the US president. Ilves will also hold a reception at the New York Estonian House.

Ilves was last in the Unites States only a few weeks ago, where he met President Barack Obama in the White House.
