Former rector of Tallinn University Rein Raud has brought his book “Brothers” to the stage, directing the play himself.

The piece, which opened on Friday at the Rakvere Theater, is set in a small town, with the author himself describing it as a 'spaghetti Western'.

“All the violence that would have been used by someone else in turning the book into a play, might have been painful and even insulting to me. But after having viewed the book from a view point of turning it into a play, I have reached an understanding that all that is unavoidable,” Raud told ETV on Friday.

Raud, who has published a number of books, is the elder brother of Mihkel Raud, a TV presenter and writer, whose book "Pori näkku" (Mud in Your Face) was also turned into a stage production.
