Births Outstrip Deaths 4 Months in a Row
More births than deaths were recorded nationwide in September. The difference was small, 11, but it means that births have outstripped deaths for four months in a row.
According to Statistics Estonia, the overall figure so far this year is still negative, with 11,659 deaths and 10,582 births.
Birth numbers traditionally spike between June and September, while the number of deaths is far lower in summer.
The last time a yearly figure showed more births than deaths was in 2010, when the difference was 35. The previous positive year was 1990.
Kevin, Martin, Aleksei and Kristofer were the most popular names given to boys born this September, while for girls Arina, Maria, Sofia and Laura topped the list.
