Speaker of Parliament, Deputies Slam Cabinet Over Lack of Efficiency
The Board of the Parliament, consisting of Speaker Ene Ergma (IRL), Laine Randjärv (Reform) and Jüri Ratas (Center), have sent the Cabinet a letter criticizing its lack of efficiency in sending draft laws for debate.
The letter highlights the fact that eight bills are currently under debate in Parliament that, if passed, should take effect on January 1, while one draft law, an EU directive on EU-wide health care coverage, is yet to be voted on but should have entered force weeks ago.
After a bill is passed, a few weeks are needed before it can take effect, meaning that those eight draft laws should be debated and voted on in the coming days.
In addition to sending bills more quickly, the board said, the Cabinet should divide the bills into those that need a quick reaction and those which merit a longer debate.
