The Social Democrats stopped their delaying tactics in the second reading of the 2014 state budget on Friday evening, but vow to fight for their causes.

Despite promises of keeping Parliament busy over the weekend, the Social Democrats said there is little point in continuing filibustering as the coalition will not budge in its decision not to increase the monthly child allowance from 19.18 euros.

Over 400 amendments were proposed to the budget by Wednesday, but only 132 were voted on by Friday noon, as the Social Democrats took ten minute breaks and roll calls before each vote.

The third and final reading will take place in a few weeks.
