Estonia Beats Liechtenstein in Last Match of the Year, 3-0
The national football team beat one of the world's least populous nations, Liechtenstein, 3-0, in a friendly match in Vaduz on Tuesday evening.
Defender Enar Jääger's 100th game for the Estonian team was heading for a dull draw until the last minute of the first half, when a cross by Taijo Teniste was met by Sergei Zenjov to put the visitors ahead.
Jääger himself was substituted around the 20th minute due to a injury, while Estonia struggled to dominate the game. The game had set into a pattern of Estonian pressure, albeit with poor finishing, followed by counterattacks by the home team.
Estonia looked more focused and attack-minded coming out of the dressing rooms for the second half, and the 20 visiting fans who made the long trip were not disappointed.
Henri Anier scored his third of the year for the national team in the 61st minute, calmly capitalizing on a defensive error.
The Motherwell striker then added his second of the evening two minutes later.
Estonia could have scored a few more, wasting a few chances, but settled happily for the 3-0 away victory.
