A large explosion tore through a production facility operated by the BLRT shipyard in Kopli today at around 13:00, killing one person and injuring two.

The person killed was struck by flying debris outside the building, a Rescue Board spokesperson told ETV.

The roof of the structure caved in after the explosion, a spokesman for the Rescue Board told uudised.err.ee.

The Rescue Board received the call at 13:02 and efforts to extinguish a fire ensued.

The extent of the fire and cause of the explosion are not known at this time, although company representatives told uudised.err.ee that oxygen was being used at the facility's acetylene welding station and that the situation was "localized."

Headquartered in Tallinn, BLRT is one of the region's largest shipyards with facilities in four countries.
