Court Overrules Former Police Official's Leak Conviction
Tallinn District Court has overturned the conviction of former police official Alice Järvet, who was accused of leaking information from a police database, and sent the case back to a lower court.
Harju County Court will have to hear the case again, after fining her 9,398 euros ordering a three-year suspension from police work last March.
In addition to repealing the conviction, the district court ordered the state to pay Järvet 630 euros to compensate legal fees.
According to the indictment, Järvet twice disclosed private information regarding a person's health, private life or business activity to an unauthorized individual in 2009. She was fired over the accusations later that year.
In January, the public prosecutor made a second attempt at bringing charges against Järvet after the Supreme Court threw out the case because the allegations did not meet legal requirements.
