According to initial police reports, Viimsi Council member Robert Herman died on Saturday when loading a pistol while hunting, but witnesses now say he died at a party at his summer home.

The Reform Party politician and businessman was believed to have accidentally shot himself in the stomach while out hunting that day.

A neighbor told Äripäev on Tuesday that Herman had planned to go hunting, but a few friends showed up and they started drinking instead. Later shots were heard, at first thought to be airgun shots.

Neighbors said they do not suspect foul play.

The police have opened a criminal investigation.
