Lasnamäe Super Mall Cleared by Tallinn Government ({{commentsTotal}})

Tallinn City Government has approved site papers that will pave the way for what will be Estonia's largest shopping mall by far.

Infortar, the owners of the Tallink ferry and hotel business, on Wednesday received the rights to develop complex in the city's Lasnamäe district that will have 144,000 m2 in retail space alone, in addition to entertainment and common areas.

That would dwarf the soon-to-be-expanded Ülemiste Center's 92,000 m2 near the airport and the Panorama City shopping center set to open in Lasnamäe next year.

Tallink City, as the mammoth, 150-million-euro complex is to be called, would be located at Punane 76, halfway between Ülemiste and Pirita River.

According to plans, it would have six above-ground levels with a partially landscaped roof and 2,215 parking spots. The height of the parking garage would be 35 meters and that of its amusement park, over 40 meters. There will be 22,500 m2 for entertainment.

Site papers originally filed in 2004 by Tallink owner Infortar called for an indoor downhill skiing slope and a ski tunnel.

The next step in the process is to hold a strategic impact assessment and public comment period.

The biggest malls in Estonia currently:

1. Ülemiste Center, Tallinn - 92,000 m2
2. Lõunakeskus, Tartu - 66,000 m2
3. Rocca al Mare, Tallinn - 53,300 m2
4. Kristiine Center, Tallinn - 42,700 m2
