Woman's Body Found Under Burning Car in Tartu, Police Avert Worse Tragedy
The university town was shocked by an incident late Friday night in which police found a woman's body under a burning car, then entered a nearby house to find a second woman and 3-year-old child in flames.
The discovery of a 30-year-old woman's body under the car in the rundown Jaamamõisa district sometime after midnight led investigators shortly thereafter to an apartment where a 33-year-old woman and the boy were found.
Police responders kicked open the door upon smelling fumes and managed to extinguish the flames. Both of the victims are in serious but stable condition with serious burns to over 20 percent of their bodies.
Police said the deceased died of strangulation and that the surviving adult victim, who was a roommate and said to have been in a relationship with the deceased, is the main suspect.
