Postimees daily has announced that Mart Noorma is its person of the year for 2013 for his role in the construction of the student satellite ESTCube-1.

The criteria for the award were that the individual's accomplishments should "have importance years from now" and the person's "deeds should go down in history."

Last year the Postimees person of the year was Estonian Maritime Museum director Urmas Dresen, who led the opening of the Seaplane Harbor addition to the Maritime Museum, and the year before that, the carbon credit traders Anne Sulling and Hannu Lamp.

The one-kilogram, one-liter ESTCube-1 was launched in May from French Guiana and put Estonia in space for the first time.
