RMK Christmas Trees Gaining Popularity
A record 8,700 trees were harvested from state-owned forests over the holidays, according to the State Forest Management Center (RMK).
RMK allows people to cut down their own Christmas tree. Customers can pay online or using a mobile phone app, with trees going for between 3 and 13 euros depending on the height.
Toomas Väät, a specialist at RMK, said the increase is down to the popularity of the app, which was introduced last year and which accounts for 70 percent of sales. In 2011, 7,000 trees were sold, increasing to 7,600 last Christmas.
