Two Other Political Heavyweights Could Join Herkel
After Andres Herkel announced the formation of a new political party on Sunday, two other well-known public figure who have had similar aims could join his party.
Former head of the Bank of Estonia's supervisory board, Jaan Männik, said half a year ago that his new project would be the formation of a new political force. His party would be expected to be right-leaning liberal, similar to Herkel's direction.
Männik told ETV on Sunday evening that he could ditch his own plan and join Herkel's camp. “I have said that we should not have too many political parties and there should be one force. I would join that force,” Männik said.
He told Postimees on Monday that, were he to join Herkel, he would not insist on being chairman.
MEP Kristiina Ojuland, who was ejected from the Reform Party in summer, is yet to decide whether to join Herkel or continue with her own goals of setting up a new party, which she announced at the beginning of January.
Ojuland's long Reform Party background also points to right-liberal politics.
