Hvostov: Ilves Condescending to Estonian Intelligentsia
Journalist Andrei Hvostov said President Toomas Hendrik Ilves does not comprehend his listeners and the political elite is trying to ignore the new grassroots initiatives.
Speaking on ERR radio on Wednesday, Hvostov said he was not inspired by the President's Independence Day speech on Monday, as he expected those words years ago.
“What he says when he meets our culture figures, intelligentsia, makes people mad. He speaks to us as if we were schoolchildren in the eighth or ninth grade," he said.
Hvostov, a journalist at Eesti Ekspress, said Ilves did not mention Ansip's resignation, as he needs Toompea's support
Speaking about the established political forces, Hvostov said political powers have grown distant from the public and a new party is needed, adding that Ansip has refused to talk to non-political public figures. The only solution is to set up a political party and gain popularity to win respect in the eyes of politicians.
