Large Demolition Operation Begins in Ida-Viru County
Work has began on dismantling the above-ground buildings of Viru mines, which closed after 48 years of operation last June.
The project is one of the nation's largest ever demolition operations, creating 50,000 tons of building waste, ETV reported on Wednesday.
Board member of Purustaja OÜ, the company charged with the demolition, Kaido Koskla said the main production facility will be far harder to destroy than normal buildings, as the walls are enforced to protect them from vibration from the machines.
He said the majority of the waste will be reused, and a forest will eventually take over the area.
