Ski Jumper's Sixth Place Finish Is Bright Spot in Dim Winter ({{commentsTotal}})


The ERR sports department,, has picked ski jumper Kaarel Nurmsalu as athlete of the week for his sixth place at the world championship event in Oslo.

Nurmsalu soared 129 and 123 meters on two jumps, earning him 241.4 points. It was one of the better ski results this year for a country that has struggled to crack the top 30. His previous career best was 13th.

There were a number of other strong candidates from events all around the continent. Speedskater Saskia Alusalu became the first Estonian to pick up points in the world cup with a 10th place in Germnay.

Kristjan Kangur's home club Milano Emporio Armani scored 7 points in a win against defending champion Pireus Olympiakos, and excelled on defense.

Pro cyclist on the Cofidis team, Gert Jõeäär, won the multi day 3-daagse van West-Vlaanderen race (UCI category 2.1).

And the Estonian football team started under new head coach Magnus Pehrsson with a win away against Gibraltar, 2-0.
