Klaas to Replace Kruuse as Tartu Mayor
Reform Party MP Urmas Klaas is in line to replace Urmas Kruuse as the Mayor of Tartu, as the later will be a minister in the new cabinet.
Klaas had been offered the position before, but until now he had decided to continue as an MP. He has now accepted the position, having been yet again overlooked for a ministerial spot.
“Leading Tartu is a challenge and an honor for any politician. Tartu is the capital of southern Estonia, and also a center for a large part of Estonia,” Klaas said in a Reform Party press release today, adding that transport possibilities, safer traffic and building a business-friendly environment are current priorities.
Kruuse became mayor in 2007, and continued after last year's local elections as the Reform Party ditched IRL to form a new coalition with the Social Democrats and the Center Party.
