Security and Administrative Reform on the Agenda for Pevkur
Minister of the Interior appointee Hanno Pevkur said the primary task of the ministry will be ensuring security in Estonia and assured the work started by the minister of regional affairs - a now discontinued Interior Ministry institution - will continue.
Considering the fact that the ministry is in charge of 300 million euros and 10,000 employees, "it is a great responsibility," Pevkur said in an interview to ETV.
Pevkur, who is currently Justice Minister, said the primary task of the ministry is ensuring Estonian security, which does not mean just the public order, but also co-operation between security agencies, which he said often happens “behind the scenes” but is nonetheless necessary.
Pevkur said administrative reform will be on the agenda and negotiations with local governments will probably be tense.
When asked about him closely losing out on the prime minister ticket to fellow Reform Party member Taavi Rõivas, Pevkur said that “in politics, one has to be ready for the unexpected."
