Outgoing PM Andrus Ansip's nine-year term was characterized by increasing integration with the west and a stable business environment, but Ansip's greatest fault was a lack of a long-term vision, say business leaders.

“Andrus Ansip was a very good prime minister, but he could have been a great prime minister had he had a clear vision for the future,” Trigon Capital's Joakim Helenius told Eesti Päevaleht on Tuesday, adding that while a stable business environment is positive, it can turn sour if stagnation sets in.

Businessman Heldur Meerits said Ansip and his Reform Party think Estonia is already a finished work and that only the salaries increase each year.

AS TREV-2 Group's Erki Mölder said Estonia tackled the 2008 to 2009 financial and economic crises well, but the continued prioritization of strict finances s shows a lack of ideas, adding that Estonia led in tax innovation at the beginning of the millennium, but has now been surpassed by neighbors.
