Mihkelson: Georgia Should Be Fast-Tracked Into NATO ({{commentsTotal}})

Head of the Estonian Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, Marko Mihkelson, said Estonia will support Georgian aspirations to join NATO, at a meeting with Irakli Alasania, the Georgian minister of defense.

Mihkelson said in a press release after the meeting on Monday that Georgia had made great strides in meeting NATO membership requirements.

“Georgia's contribution to international security and its implementation of domestic reforms are a clear sign of the nation's readiness to take a serious step forward toward NATO membership,” Mihkelson said, adding that a "road map" to membership should be approved at the next NATO meeting in the fall.

Mihkelson said according to latest polls, over 80 percent of the public in Georgia back joining NATO.
