Estonian Bomb Squad Members Receive International Certificates
Estonian bomb disposal experts received internationally recognized certificates in the Estonian War Museum today, issued for the first time in the country.
The certificates were presented to 14 instructors, 14 explosives technicians, 28 Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) operators (level EOD3), 16 EOD operators (level EOD2) and seven EOD operators (level EOD1), the Estonian Rescue Board announced today.
In early September 2012, the professional standards of EOD operators were approved officially for the first time, laying the foundation for their job description and international recognition.
To qualify, the operators needed to pass an EOD training program that meets the requirements of the professional qualification.
The Estonian EOD center received its first call on May 25, 1992 and it has become one of the most professional units in Estonia. Estonian EOD operators have participated in international missions in Afghanistan, Georgia, Mali, Congo and South Sudan.
The professional standards compiled by the Estonian Qualifications Authority are based on international EOD standards.
