Number of Estonians in Finland Has Nearly Doubled in Six Years
In six years, the number of foreign-speaking residents in Finland has increased 54 percent and the number of Estonians has nearly doubled.
According to the Finnish Statistics Board, there are 293,536 people whose first language was not Finnish or Swedish, the country's two official languages, the daily Helsingin Sanomat reported on Thursday.
In recent years, the number of foreigners, whose first language is not one of the two official languages, has increased quickly – 54 percent since 2008.
Russian speakers are the largest group with 67,000 people, followed by Estonians, who number 44,000 – nearly twice as much as in 2008.
