According to a doctoral dissertation on the reading skills of teenagers, the habit of reading large amounts of texts on the Internet every day also improves the reading skills of the young.
In her dissertation, defended at Tallinn University's Institute of Educational Sciences today, she claims that the term reading skills is too narrowly applied only to reading fiction, uudised.err.ee reported today.
“It can be said that reading all kinds of texts improves reading skills, which is why there is no reason for concern that students are only reading online,” she said.
Preferences in fiction tend to overlap with compulsory reading in school, while the Internet is used for social interactions and looking for information and the news.
