Estonia Beats Tajikistan With Time Running Out
The Estonian national football team beat visitors Tajikistan 2-1 after goals on the 89th and 92nd minute.
Dilšod Vosiev opened the scoring for the visitors in the 61st minute before Siim Luts and Hannes Anier, brother of Henri, both scored their first goals for the national team.
Head coach Magnus Pehrsson again fielded an experimental side, with Mihkel Aksalu starting in goal and Konstantin Vassiljev, Henrik Ojamaa and Henri Anier all left out of the game.
The win was the end to a winless run of five friendly matches (1-1 against Gibraltar, 0-0 Latvia - loss on penalties, 2-0 loss against Finland and a 1-0 loss against Iceland).
Pehrsson said he is happy the players fought until the end, saying defensively the team stuck to the gameplan but was not aggressive enough in the attacking phase. The coach called up 37 players for the game, giving 34 a chance to play.
He said he has a clear vision which footballers to call up for the European Championship qualifiers next month. Estonia will play Sweden first in Stockholm in a friendly on September 4.
