No-Confidence Vote Against Savisaar Set for June 17
The Social Democrat faction on the Tallinn City Council filed a motion Thursday to hold a vote of no-confidence against the mayor Edgar Savisaar, currently under investigation with other high-ranking officials for suspected misuse of public funds.
Savisaar, deputy mayor Arvo Sarapuu, North Tallinn district elder Karin Tammemägi and deputy elder Priit Kutser are under investigation for suspected abuse of public funds prior to the 2013 local elections, uudised.err.ee reported on Thursday.
The chairman of the council Toomas Vitsut said the vote will take place on June 17.
The motion has been signed by 24 members of the council from IRL, the Reform Party and the Social Democrat factions. Savisaar’s Center Party commands 46 seats in the 79-seat council.
This will be the third session of the council this year to discuss a no-confidence vote - the previous two were unsuccessful attempts at dislodging Savisaar and Deputy Mayor Mihhail Kõlvart.
