Estonia's top discus thrower, Gerd Kanter, who has two Olympic medals, threw his season best at a Diamond League meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland.

His throw of 64.91 meters was enough to earn a second place. The 35-year-olds personal best is 73.38 meters,

The first leg of international tournaments finished well for Estonian teams, with three teams, out of four, winning their first games.

Estonian champion FC Levadia was made to work against La Fiorita of San Marino, scoring the only goal of the game on the fourth minute of added time. The second leg will be held on Tuesday in Tallinn.

Nõmme Kalju traveled to Iceland for the first game, and came home also with a 1-0 win against Reykjavik Fram. The only goal was scored by Fabio Prates on the 61st minute.

The second leg is set for July 10 in Tallinn.

Sillamäe Kalev beat Espoo Honka of Finland 2-1 at home, taking a 2-0 lead on the 72nd minute before the visitors scored thanks to a penalty. The second game will take place in Finland on Thursday.

The dream is almost over for Tartu Santos, a third tier team which made the Estonian Cup final. They will have to score seven unanswered goals in Norway against Tromsö on July 10, just to level the two-leg match.

Football national team striker Sergei Zenjov has moved to the UK signing for Blackpool, which plays in the Championship, or the second highest league in the nation.

Zenjov, who has scored seven goals for the national team, previously played for Karpaty Lviv in the Ukraine.

France and Germany will kick off the quarterfinal round of the football World Cup tonight in Brazil at 19.00, which will be carried live on ETV2. Coverage starts at 18.45. The second game today will match up host Brazil against Columbia. That game will be carried on ETV at 23.00, with coverage beginning around 22.45. Costa Rica will take on Netherlands, and Argentina will play Belgium on Saturday.
