Galojan Appeals Extradition
Former Estonian low-level politician Anna-Maria Galojan, convicted of embezzlement, has appealed a UK court decision to extradite her back to Estonia.
The London Westminster Magistrates' Court ruled on a week ago to extradite her to Estonia, but she has appealed the decision and it is currently unclear when her case will be heard.
In May 2011, Galojan was convicted in Estonia of stealing around 60,000 euros from the non-profit group European Movement Estonia while she headed the organization in 2007. She was sentenced to one year and 10 months in prison, of which she would have had to serve five months immediately.
The ministry submitted a request for extradition in February 2012, when she failed to appear to serve prison time and fled to London.
