Paet: Independent Investigation Into Crash Must Begin Now
Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Paet said an independent investigation into the crash of the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, which killed 298 people over eastern Ukraine on Thursday, must begin immediately.
Speaking on ETV on Thursday evening, Paet said investigators must be allowed on the scene as the crash has already been turned into part of a propaganda war, just a few hours after the event.
“All who restrict international and independent investigators have something to hide,” he said, adding that those who's consciences are clean should not stand in the way.
Paet expressed condolences to the relatives of the deceased and to the foreign ministers of Malaysia and the Netherlands. He added that they are investigating whether there were Estonian citizens on board or not.
