Foreign Ministry Hosts International Journalism Practitioners, Students
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is hosting young journalists and journalism students from countries where Estonia has an embassy starting this week in a series of lectures and seminars in Tallinn.
The Ministry is focusing on the history, culture and foreign policy of Estonia, was well as providing an overview of Estonian society, business and research developments.
"Our hope is that what these journalists see and experience in Estonia during the week will lead them to come back here, to communicate with Estonian people and local experts, and to inspire them to keep an eye on media coverage of what is going on in our country," said Foreign Minister Urmas Paet.
In the "100 Friends" program, the Foreign Ministry, in collaboration with the Government Office, hopes to have a total of 100 young journalists and journalism students participate in lead-up events to Estonia's centennial in 2018. The group will visit media operations around Tallinn, Tallinn and Tartu universities, and governmental and cultural sites, as well as a series of lectures on Estonian life.
Representatives of countries such as China, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States were eligible to apply. Journalists ages 20-30 or students in their final year of journalism study were eligible.
CORRECTION: A previous version of the article misstated the number of young journalists participating. It is, as the name of the program implies, 100.
