Police descended on the Defense Ministry in central Tallinn after a man committed suicide in one of the buildings in the complex.

Police received the report at 12:50. The victim was a man in his early 20s, a member of the home guard and on guard duty at the time, and used a service weapon, a Defense Ministry spokesperson said. The shooting occurred in a building that is owned by the Defense Ministry but was vacant.

The action in the area near the Solaris shopping center had echoes of an August 2011 incident in which an armed man set off improvised explosves in the complex.
