Opposition Parties Climb in Polls ({{commentsTotal}})

IRL made its Emor monthly poll ratings far less dire, increasing its popularity by 3 percentage points to 18 percent of decided voters, although it is still the lowest of the four parties represented in Parliament.

The ruling Reform Party continues to attract the highest support in the Emor poll commissioned by ERR, with 27 percent of decided voters saying they would vote for it if parliamentary elections where to be held today, down by 2 percentage points since a month ago.

The Social Democrats saw an even larger drop, with now only 23 percent backing, compared to 26 percent in August. The Center Party increased its share from 25 to 26 percent to overtake the Social Democrats.

The combined popularity of the two coalition parties dropped to 50 percent, the lowest since coming to power in March.

The party preference percentages are among decided voters. Undecideds accounted for 33 percent of all responses.

Emor polling expert Aivar Voog said IRL's 500-euro tax-free salary idea was behind the increase, although attracting two well-known public figures as Maire Aunaste (ETV host) and Aivar Riisalu (Center Party MP) also helped.

Voog said IRL increased its share in the low-income bracket of voters, adding that the group is highly volatile in its political preferences. The naming of Juhan Parts to lead the party at the elections next year will be reflected in next month's polls.

IRL proposed cutting all income tax for those earning 500 euros or less each month, saying the scheme would cost 120 million euros annually.
