Free Party: Russia Could Repeat Ukraine Scenario
The leadership of the newly created Free Party in Estonia said Russian President Vladimir Putin could repeat the scenario of Ukraine in other nations.
In one of the first-ever foreign policy statements from the party, which is right-leaning in its world view, the party said Russia's next steps could be to try to discredit NATO in the eyes of people living on the border with Russia.
“Our position is that if President Putin is not stopped in Ukraine then halting him in the next conflict zones will be much more difficult,” the party said in a press release, adding that the next zones could be Moldova and Abkhazia.
Russia's politics is aimed at forcing the West to make mistakes, as the West does not how to react to the aggression and breaking of international norms and rules. This will allow the nation to increase its sphere of influence and make new demands on other nations, the party said.
Estonia should, according to the party, increase military strength, better the surveillance of the border with Russia and restore training facilities in Ida-Viru County.
The nation should also increase military education in schools, further develop Russian-language media in Estonia.
The ratification of the border treaty with Russia should be suspended for now, the party said, as Russia is an untrustworthy partner.
