European Athletics announced that Gerd Kanter of Estonia has been voted by the fans and media as European men's athlete of the month for September.

Kanter, the former Olympic and world champion, won four out of his five competitions during the month, including at the IAAF Continental Cup and also achieved a season’s best of 66.28 meters in Pärnu on September 24.

Ukraine’s high jumper Bogdan Bondarenko was right behind in second place and European 400m hurdles champion Kariem Hussein of Switzerland, who ran the European-leading time of 48.47 in September, was voted third.

On the women’s side, the award went to Czech Republic’s Barbora Spotakova, who won the Diamond League final in Brussels with a 2014 world-leading javelin throw of 67.99m. In second place was Poland’s Anita Wlodarczyk and third Eloyse Lesueur of France.
