Estonia Least Selfie-ish Nation in the Region ({{commentsTotal}})

Technology company LG Electronics, in cooperation with Mindshare media agency, conducted a poll to learn about smartphone photography in the Baltic region. The results show that Estonians still favor landscapes over trendy selfies.

Selfies, in fact, do not even make the top five types of photos taken with smartphones. Only 6 percent of the respondents from Estonia admitted to taking them.

Instead, camera phones are increasingly used to take travel photos and pictures of landscapes (42 percent), children and the family (40 percent), notes and reminders (32 percent), pets (31 percent) and "funny things" (28 percent).

The above preferences differ slightly by gender and age groups. For example, women take more picture of their pets, whereas men use their camera phones to record more notes and reminders. Moreover, if the 30-40 year-olds like to take travel and family photos, the 15-29 age group prefers funny things, pets and recording the events they attend. They also take significantly more selfies and mouth-watering images of food.

The latest surveys show that around one million selfies are taken around the world each day. But regardless of their worldwide popularity - and some famous examples taken by the Estonian president - smartphone users in the Baltic countries have seemingly not gone along with the trend. The largest number of selfies in the region are taken in Latvia (10 percent), followed by Lithuania (9 percent) and Estonia (6 percent).

The poll was conducted in all three Baltic countries in September 2014 and its sample size was 1541 people.
