Politician, geographer Hardo Aasmäe dies in accident
Hardo Aasmäe, 63, Tallinn Mayor between 1990 and 1992, died on Monday evening, after reportedly falling down the stairs in the building in Tallinn in which the encyclopedia he edited has its offices.
Aasmäe reached his political heights around the 1990s, swapping the Communist Party for the Popular Front of Estonia movement.
He returned to politics last year, running for the top spot in Tallinn at the local elections for a election union. In between he led the Estonian Encyclopedia project.
In 2014 he was the Independence Party's candidate for European Parliament, winning 2,192 votes.
