GALLERY: Storm batters Estonia's coast
The year kicked off with a prolonged storm this weekend, which left 2,200 households without power and caused considerable distress to passengers travelling on ferries on the Gulf of Finland.
Although the storm was less severe than expected and the seawater level rose, it remained half a meter below the predicted 160 cm. The northwesterly cold winds that took over from the southwesterly wet winds which had melted the Christmas snow, and stuck around for much longer than anticipated.
There are talks of yet another storm arriving at the Baltic coasts next weekend, although local weather forecasters say it is too early to tell how badly Estonia will be hit.
