The Ukrainian Ministry of Economic Development and Trade has announced that Jaanika Merilo, an investor representative and former Estonian parliamentary adviser, has been appointed as an adviser to minister Aivaras Abromavičius.

Merilo, who was hitherto the managing director at the Ukrainian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association, will be responsible for the attraction of investment, the improvement of the investment and business climate, the coordination of international programs and the development of e-government solutions.

"I’m confident that her experience, including international experience, in the area of business development and investment will be necessary and useful for the ministry and for the country as a whole,” Abromavičius said.

The new Ukrainian cabinet includes several ministers who hail from abroad. In addition to Abromavičius, who is from Lithuania, the Minister of Health, Alexander Kvitashvili, comes from Georgia, and Minister of Finance, Natalie Jaresko, is a former US citizen.
