Millions of euros allocated for marking down Estonia's eastern border ({{commentsTotal}})

The cabinet has today met the interior ministry's request to allocate 2 million euros from the state reserves for marking down the temporary border with Russia.

Minister of the Interior Hanno Pevkur said the government decided to clear the temporary control line and construct border facilities between Estonia and the Russian Federation. "The cabinet's decision is a clear signal that the construction will continue and this money will contribute to this cause," he said.

The extra money will go toward the installation of border posts, monitoring system's software design, patrol trails on the Narva river and other necessary works.

All works, undertaken on the border in 2015, are estimated to cost 3,939,835 euros. Additional cost of the border clearance will be covered by the money earned from the sale of the harvested timber.
