Free Hybrid TV launched in Estonia ({{commentsTotal}})

Hybrid TV services have been launched in Estonia by Levira and the country's leading broadcasters, including ETV.

Hybrid TV is available to viewers through TasutaTV, which is suited for homes that cannot receive cable or prefer to watch television for free. The number of such households in Estonia is estimated at around 86,000.

Hybrid TV is an upgrade of free digital TV. It's a symbiosis of television and internet that allows customers to watch TV for free, watch programs on demand, listen to the radio, read and watch news (including ERR portals), and check weather forecasts.

Margus Allikmaa, chairman of ERR, said: "All those things have been available in the internet for the past five years. However, only on a small computer screen. Now people don't have to move away from their large TV screens to enjoy these benefits but can simply click on their remote to use all the services that ERR initially created for computers."

Hybrid TV is free for all. However, it does require internet access and a suitable TV.
